"The Sea Freak originally appeared in what was basically the 18th century Russian version of The Weekly World News. The caption told readers that this creature was found off the coast of Spain and then captured and dragged with great difficulty out of the sea. I've appropriated the Sea Freak and used him as a symbol for anyone who's felt out of place, awkward, or lonely. (The text in the banner and bubble is a quote from The Smith's song: "There is a Light That Never Goes Out")."
